Bwin.Party to enter Spain

Bwin.Party have filed for a Spanish license

Like many other gambling companies, they want in on the action in Spain

The state of online poker has been the source for some of the most heated discussions in the business. For years now, the legality and regulation of online poker has been up for debate, with many people arguing that such a decision will do nothing but benefit both customers and companies, and everybody will have something to gain at the end of the day.

Well, this year we have been through hell, then came out on top at the end. In late spring, the Black Friday events rolled by, and literally took everybody by surprise, when some of the largest online poker companies in the world were the target of an investigation by the US Department of Justice. But it seems like poker companies and lawmakers alike are starting to see eye to eye, and more and more countries have started to adopt legislation that will allow online poker rooms to carry on doing business with people.

One of the latest examples of this comes from Europe, where starting January 1st Spain will join the ranks of the countries that will have a friendlier regulation towards online poker. And the companies in the industry have lined up to get their hands on licenses from Spain. Among them, as it’s been revealed now, Bwin.Party, the largest online gambling operator in the world. And they won’t stop at Spain, either – Bwin.Party have announced that they will be pursuing a license in Denmark as well.

The license is rumored to extend to many different areas of the online gambling business, including an online sports betting website, an online casino, online poker room and online bingo room. The group has already applied for a license in Spain as of the 25th of November, and starting in 2012 they fully expect to get the ball rolling, so to speak.

And Bwin.Party aren’t the only gambling operator to do so. Ladbrokes, the sports betting giant, were the first to announce their intention of getting in on the Spanish action back when the first news hit the air, and they were quickly followed by other leading companies in the business. One thing is for certain: starting January 1st, things are looking up for online poker!
