David Shallow wins WPT Ireland

David Shallow did something remarkable on the World Poker Tour (Ireland) in the main event. In an event such as this, with so many skilled and aces playing their hand, it isn’t surprising to see someone taking off with a million chip advantage at the start. But even in such events it’s overwhelming to see someone pull out a whopping 6,155,000 chips at the start. This kind of a massive pilling of chips has been accomplished by defeating four competitors prior to the final day. This kind of a lead basically sealed off a win for David Shallow at the WPT Ireland.

At the start of the final table the tally of chips was at: David Shallow with 6155000 chips followed by Steve Watts with 160000 and Patrik Vestlin with 1100000. They were followed closely by Charles Chattha with 835000 chips and Ronan Gilligan with 775000.

And not surprisingly, the finals ended without much off a hullaballoo. The game ended within three hours, ‘short’ by finals table main event standards. Though, this wasn’t ‘a piece of cake’ for Shallow. He still had to earn his piece of the pie. At the start, Shallow doubled up against both Vestlin and Gilligan, losing a staggering 4276000 chips. This gave Gilligan the edge, which allowed him to oust then fifth position Steve Watts.  Gilligan had come up a long way, with his chips at 2898000. Gilligan didn’t stop there, but took his momentum a notch higher, calling a big blind against Vestlin. With a series of tactical plays, Gilligan had made his way up to the top with Shallow following close behind. Vestlin had now moved down to last position.

But just like his rise, Gilligan also had a sharp fall. He made some reckless raises and his stack took a serious dent, and his chips began to deplete all too quickly. He rode out of the game at third place. Now David Shallow had just one more competitor at the table pitting against his large pile up of chips. He had an astounding 7280000 chip pile up against Chaz Chattha with 2860000 chip count.

The game carried on for quite some time, before Shallow sealed off the win with turn 8 and river 3 after Chatta had moved all in. The win saw David Shallow with the WPT Ireland winner with a grand total of 222280 pounds and a $25000 seat (season ending).
