No official statement has yet been made by Intertops
Quite a lot of changes are happening in the United States’ online poker market. After the Black Friday indictments took place, a little over a year ago, the entire online poker industry started to twist and turn. Some online poker rooms walked away, out of fear that something similar would happen to them, while other entrepreneurs saw an opportunity in the making and built their own poker sites.
We talked yesterday about Fertitta Interactive, the company behind the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and their plan of opening an online gaming site called Ultimate Gaming, complete with an online poker section. This launch is to happen on Friday, and it’s gathered quite a lot of attention. In the beginning, right after the launch, they will only offer free play, with the addition of real money poker tables after Ultimate Gaming gets their gaming license from the Nevada Gaming Commission.
And now for some bad news, at least for the moment. Intertops has announced that they have stopped accepting players from the United States. And what’s bizarre is the fact that they didn’t actually officially announce it. Intertops had recently moved to a new gaming network, the Revolution Gaming Network, and quite a few of the poker skins that are active on this network do accept US poker players.
Intertops doesn’t seem to be in any kind of trouble, so this disappearance of US poker players is a bit odd. They have no problem with making payments – and they never had, as they’ve always had outstanding results in this area, so no apparent reason comes to mind.
Several options for this situation have been floating around. The first, and the only one that’s not as alarming as the rest, states that perhaps this is a temporary response in order to maintain the level of efficiency. The poker skin has had a lot of players sign up recently, and they need to handle the actual volume of players in a proper manner. If this is the case, US poker players should be able to play on Intertops soon enough.
Also, there’s a new clause in the Terms and Conditions that left people wondering. It states that the company reserves their right to refuse registrations for players from the United States. Whatever the case, if you’re from the US, you can’t play on Intertops for the time being.
