Randy Lew Plays 8 hours straight, sets a new record
Randy Lew took up a dastardly challenge. He claimed that he, by the end of the Caribbean Adventure 2012 by PokerStars, would break a record. Now, that’s not all! The record he was supposed to break was left to the suggestions made by others.
With suggestions pouring in, it was finally decided that he would break the record of most hands played in a period of eight hours, in an online poker, get this, while remaining profitable! This was done to prevent the tactical autofolding to stay on at the table.
And this Sunday, Randy Lew did stick to his words, stuck to his guns and beat the record. The event was held at an area cordoned off for this feat, on the PCA tournament floor. But for the stipulation of staying at the table while remaining profitable, the record was set near the end of the session.
At the beginning with a fair crowd watching on, it seemed improbable that Lew would make good on his claims, for he had quite a bad start. He was down by about $1200 when Lew realized that he needed to ‘chase those losses’ and rose up to the $5/$10 games. With an exhaustive gaming through the eight hour session, he did manage to get his hands finally on a ‘pocket aces’. The man had been scuttling between no less than twenty five tables at any point of the eight hour period, sometimes even notching the value up to forty tables at a time. This mind boggling effort did seem to be paying dividends when he got his ‘pocket aces’. Though it is considered as the most profitable hand, yet playing such ‘make or break’ cards at the end of such a grueling session, is a big leap of faith, which could have resulted in a devastating end to his chase for a record. With people exclaiming and calling out to fold, Randy ‘nononoko’ Lew went with his guts to play the hand, and winning himself at the end of the eight hour period a profit, even if it be only a $7.65 profit. Though all and sundry would agree that in terms of poker playing, for eight straight hours and more than 24000 hands, winning just 7 dollars in meaningless. But it’s a record nonetheless and it also fetched him over 22000 FPP’s (Loyalty Points) during the session, which does come in quite handy given the large volume of online players. Making a single big break yields plenty!
